Before we breakdown AWeber vs Mailchimp, I want to let you know that AWeber introduced a free plan, AWeber Free. It’s pretty much the same as their Pro (paid) plan, minus a few features. You get 24/7 customer service that is amazing, plus all of my favorite features with AWeber. But let’s talk about what you are here for, Aweber vs Mailchimp. So, like many of you, I started out using MailChimp when my business was new because it was free. And I heard the name all over the place so I figured it must be pretty reliable. But is it?
AWeber vs Mailchimp

Let’s just fast forward to now…I’m using AWeber and I am never going back to Mailchimp. Every time I come in contact with a client, lead, potential client, or just anyone using Mailchimp, I will always recommend that they move off that platform. As they are growing their business and expanding their email marketing, they really need to consider a more robust and user-friendly email marketing system.
I could go on and on in this discussion, seriously. I love AWeber so much more than Mailchimp but I’ll try to just hit the major points. Ready? Let’s go.
Ease of use
Personally, I find AWeber to be much easier to use. MailChimp is clunky. It’s poorly organized. As someone who’s pretty experienced at working in different email platforms, when I am working in MailChimp, it literally takes me twice as long. Literally, twice as long to build simple newsletters and email campaigns, I’m not even talking about complicated processes here. If your time is valuable to you, I would consider switching over to AWeber…even the free account.
Customer service and support
Phone, chat, and email support
One of the things I am always going to emphasize about AWeber is that their customer service is phenomenal. They give you 24/7 customer support via chat and email. They’re on the East Coast and have office hours during “normal” business hours for phone customer support, and they also have 24/7 email customer support.
You can access any type of customer service with both Free and Pro plans! Mailchimp only offers instant support for their paid clients. Honestly, I don’t know if I’ve ever talked to anyone at MailChimp now that I think of it.
Migration services
Here’s another one that I absolutely love…free migration! If you’re on the fence about moving from Mailchimp and thinking “you’re crazy, Katie, I do not have the time to take all of my contacts and my templates and move everything over to AWeber,” that’s okay. Why? Because they will do it for you. Once you sign up, you contact customer support, and you let them know that you need help migrating from MailChimp (or your current provider) to AWeber, and they do it for you. It’s fantastic!
Features and benefits
Integrations
Here’s another benefit for those of you who are selling through your email marketing, you now can get a direct integration with Shopify and PayPal with AWeber. You cannot get that with Mailchimp’s free level. That’s a direct integration, which means you do not need a third-party app to make PayPal and AWeber talk to each other, they automatically talk to each other.
Templates, segmentation, and autoresponders
AWeber has tons and tons of email templates, easy to use, drag and drop, beautiful templates for landing pages and newsletters. Templates can be designed based on your branding. You can also create custom HTML templates if that’s your thing.
With AWeber, you can build unlimited autoresponder campaigns. You can have different autoresponders linked to different signup forms and different landing pages. This feature will help you create more targeted email campaigns to send your ideal clients and customers. MailChimp is very limited when it comes to the number of autoresponders you can have as well as having fewer template options.
Teams
Another benefit of AWeber vs Mailchimp is if you have a team of people or you have a virtual assistant, you can add them to your AWeber team at no extra cost. Multiple team member access allows your virtual assistant or team members access to your email marketing, email campaigns, email templates, sign up forms, and landing pages. Anyone that you designate can edit and update projects in your AWeber account.
