How often should you send email newsletters to your list? Great question! Email frequency best practices are more intuition than a hard and fast rule. So, sorry, the magic answer isn’t three times a month, or every two weeks, or daily. It takes a little bit of trial and error to find your sweet spot. Read on to learn some best practices.
Email Frequency Best Practices

Do you send weekly email newsletters? What about monthly? How often do your subscribers want to hear from you? The answer is going to depend on your audience and your content. The most important thing is to create and maintain consistency.
Personally, I send my newsletters every Friday morning, without fail. After a while, my subscribers expect to hear from me… same bat time, same bat channel!
Email Frequency Best Practices: Monthly email newsletter
If you aren’t sure how often your customers want to hear from you or if your business is brand new, start by sending out newsletters once a month. This also allows you more time to plan, get into a routine, and not get overwhelmed by adding a new marketing task to your business.
Again, make sure you are consistent. For example, schedule your email newsletters every 1st Monday of the month at 6:00 am. Having a deadline each month will also help keep you accountable!
Email Frequency Best Practices: Weekly email newsletter
Do weekly newsletters fit your audience? If you aren’t sure, you can slowly increase the cadence of your emails. Pay attention to how your audience responds. If your open and click rates remain the same or increase then you are going in the right direction!
Email Frequency Best Practices: Increase how often you send emails
If you want to start sending emails more often than you are currently, make sure to start slow so that you don’t annoy your readers. Send emails twice a month at first. After a couple of months doing that, increase your emails to once a week. Find the schedule that fits your business and audience needs.
BUT I WANT TO SEND MORE EMAILS!
I’m not going to discourage you from sending emails to your customers more than once a week! The truth is, only YOU know our audience. If your content is on fire, you have frequent product launches or have a business that involves regular updates or promotions, you may want to consider sending emails several times a month…or even several times a week!
Email Frequency Best Practices: Review your analytics
Your email analytics will help you find the sweet spot for how often you should be sending your emails. Regularly review your email analytics to see how your audience is actually responding to your content and the frequency of your messaging. If you have increased your emails to a few times a week and start to see a large increase in people opting to unsubscribe from your list, then you may be sending too many or the content might not be what they are looking for from you.

Email Frequency Best Practices: Consistency
I know I sound like I am repeating myself but really, consistency is key. Whether you communicate with your email list every month or every week or every day. Consistency is the foundation for strong email frequency best practices. When your readers know when to expect you, they are more likely to open your emails, read your emails, and eventually convert to paying customers! And that’s the goal, right?
Consistency is also important with how you format your emails, too. Get some tips here!
